The Rise of Social Media

The world is getting smaller and flatter. As the award-winning New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman explained how the globalization happened and why this happened at the dawn of the twenty-first century; what it means to countries, companies, communities, and individuals; and how governments and societies can, and must, adapt.

That was on a very micro level, someone might argue. However, these days, everything is interconnected in a way. You are in a web of everything else, at some point, we are all out of control but on the other hand, we are totally in control. Depends on which position you are at or what role you are playing. Therefore, it’s getting really exciting, isn’t it?

We can see each day many big companies start investing chunk percentage of budget into social media since consumers are changing the way of media consumption; we also see each day small and medium sized business starting successful business and gaining profits via modern technologies & new way of communication.

From the graphic below, it’s easier to understand now the power has been shifted back to the consumers—via the social media, social networking sites, people can say whatever they want, they decide the up and down of your brands. They also give you new ideas! How great is that?!

If you are still watching and hesitating, stop now! And start getting in the conversation with your consumers. Listen what they say, understand what they want, give them what they really need.

We don’t like talkers; we have to be the doers.
