Groupon is getting ready for the China launch very soon and aggressively expressed that it wanted to dominate China market Group buying scene.
I have a few questions for Groupon:
1. No idea why Groupon use "Tibet" in the story for the Superbowl ad. right before China launch, any reasons?
2. China already have quite a few successful Groupbuying website/providers: Manzou.com, mybuluo.com, koubei.com, etc. each of them has more than 1.5million active members and growing rapidly. If you can understand Chinese, you can see the content is very detail & local, each website has forum for members to comment and contribute. There are more than 20 cities covered... considering the workload every day?
3. As another optimistic American company entering China market, I believe Groupon will hire some global agencies to handle part of the market research and development business, just make sure they really understand the market and can provide
4. The name of Groupon China site now decided to be "Gaopeng", meaning "Distinguished friends", coming from the idiom of China "Gaopengmanzuo" (Distinguished friends get together). Great name! However, if you saw my 2nd point, there is another site in operation called "Manzuo", the 2nd part of the idiom... Sounds a bit weird to me. I am not sure if Groupon has the plan to acquire that site in the near future?!
Looking forward to the launch. Exciting!
